Change search engine and browser for Cortana on Windows 10

Cortana is the new personal assistant developed by Microsoft and made available to everyone with the advent of the new version of Windows.

But if we want to make the most of it and have your search open with Google Chrome (or other browser) and Google.com instead of Bing?

Being Cortana developed by Microsoft does not allow default to change the search engine and the browser to use, in fact it uses BING as search engine and EDGE as a browser to open the results.

With this guide we will see how to set up a browser of our choice to open the results and we will also see how to change the search engine from BING to GOOGLE.

Change browsers for Cortana

The steps to do are simple and require the download of only one small software that will change the preferences of the choice of the browser. It will open the browser you have set as default on your computer.

  1. Download EDGE-FLECTOR. Click on EdgeDeflector_install.exe to download and then install it.
  2. Now open the SETTINGS and click on APP
  3. Now click on the left on APP DEFAULT and scroll down to find and click on CHOOSE APP DEFAULT FOR PROTOCOL
  4. Scroll down to find the MICROSOFT-EDGE column on the left and select EDGE-FLECTOR on the right.

Cortana’s results will now be opened using your default browser, whether it’s Google Chrome, Firefox, or others.

However, we have not yet fixed Bing’s problem; yes because Cortana will continue to use Bing as a search engine. Let’s see how to replace it.

Replace Bing with Google (BingtoGoogle)

On GOOGLE CHROME you just need to download this extension and install it, Bing will be redirected to Google!

If you use FIREFOX/MOZILLA instead you can download this extension and it will do everything automatically.

Finished!

Now you can use Cortana with your favorite browser and take advantage of a voice assistant that is normally abandoned by Windows users. Few steps that could change the use of your computer.
