The Ray Tracing is a technology that allows you to create light effects, shadow and reflections in real-time games, available in newer graphic cards from Nvidia. Although exclusive to PCs (for now), there is already a good selection of titles that support the feature. Check out below 10 games with Ray Tracing technology for you to know.
10 games with Ray Tracing technology
1. Cyberpunk 2077
The CD Projekt Red title is a project that took almost a decade to complete, but if Cyberpunk 2077 already looks good on consoles, on PC it has full support for Ray Tracing and DLSS (technology that uses AI to smooth out contours and eliminate serfs ).
The open-world game, featuring Keanu Reeves and singer Grimes, offers deep immersion in a violent and fascinating technological future.
2. Battlefield V
EA’s classic war series was the flagship of Ray Tracing, when nVidia introduced the RTX family plates in 2019. In Battlefield V, the player can enjoy offline mode, with stories from lesser known World War II fronts or enter multiplayer and face epic confrontations, the Pacific Theater scenario.
The reflections in the water and metal, as well as the shadows and beams of light in the forests, are very well defined.
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
The version of the traditional Activision FPS released in 2019 was the first in the franchise to support Ray Tracing. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a reboot of the sub-series launched in 2007 and brings a new engine developed to better handle light effects.
The result is quite natural, both in pre-rendered scenes and in real-time action sequences.
4. Wolfenstein: Youngblood
The latest chapter in the classic franchise reboot started in 2009, Wolfenstein: Youngblood moves away from solitary game mechanics to offer a cooperative experience, in which two players control Jessie and Zofia, daughters of BJ Blazkowicz.
The game takes advantage of the effects of ray tracing, in the metallic structures, lights and fire effects, both in the catacombs of Paris and in the Nazi structures.
5. Metro Exodus
The continuation of the Metro series, inspired by the book Metro 2035, by Dmitriy Glukhovskiy, turns the world of those who believed that the Moscow metro was the last bastion of humanity upside down.
With Ray Tracing active, it is possible to have better and more real effects of light and shadow in the city underground, as well as in the external landscapes, from the ruins of cities to rural environments.
6. Watch Dogs: Legion
Watch Dogs: Legion is the third installment in the Ubisoft franchise where you can hack anything and anyone. This time, the player will be able to control several characters, each with different characteristics and abilities, to fulfill DedSec’s missions against the vigilant state of London.
The capital of the United Kingdom comes alive with active Ray Tracing, with faithful reproduction of city lights, reflections of puddles on the ground, shadows, etc.
7. Quake II RTX
Quake II RTX is a proof of concept from nVidia, which used a classic game to demonstrate the capabilities of Ray Tracing. Originally launched in 1997, the game maintains its graphics, but brings all the advantages of the new technology, with lighting, shadows and realistic reflections generated in real time.
The end result is disconcerting due to the contrast, but very beautiful and, of course, Quake II RTX is still fun.
8. Minecraft
The popular building and sandbox game from Mojang (which now belongs to Microsoft) has always held a high profile for simplicity, but that does not mean that it cannot run first-rate effects.
With Ray Tracing, Minecraft is able to deliver beautiful light and shadow effects to the scenarios, both in Survival mode and (and especially) in Creation mode.
9. Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Another game that served as a showcase for Ray Tracing, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the conclusion of the new trilogy starring Lara Croft, which brought a new origin to the explorer and new enemies.
Realistic lighting technology gives a show here, both in small Latin cities and in the forests of Peru and, obviously, in the various tombs that offer great challenges and rewards to the player.
10. Control
Remedy Entertainment’s latest game, Control is an even more fantastic experience with Ray Tracing enabled.
The game, which addresses a clandestine agency that deals with reality-altering crimes, mixes visual elements from Paprika (Satoshi Kon, 2006) and The Origin (Christopher Nolan, 2010) to a Silent Hill- style narrative, with excellent effects from light, shadows and reflections, on unconventional surfaces.
