Our mouse or touchpad go too slowly to our touch? Let’s see how we can speed up the pointer’s movement
It may happen that you have a laptop in your hands with a different sensitivity between the touchpad and any connected mouse, generating the excessive speed of the pointer as a side effect when we move from one to another.
The problem is that the manufacturers of the touchpads set a very high sensitivity to improve the responsiveness of the touch with the finger.
To improve the sensitivity of input tools that affect the fingers, we can rely on both the integrated system within Windows 10 and specialized programs to set the mouse speed according to the input system used (if we use the touchpad and the mouse).
In this way we will not see the cursor go crazy at an idle speed when we move to the mouse or vice versa we will not see the slider going as slow as a snail when we use the touchpad.
1) Windows 10 integrated system
Windows 10 can handle the touchpad and mouse as separate input systems very well, so if we use this operating system we can immediately intervene in the settings for reach the desired pointer speed.
Connect the mouse to our laptop, then open the Start menu at the bottom left and type Settings, to open the new settings system provided with Windows 10.
Once the new window is open, click on Devices to see the two menus that they are relevant to our purpose: Touchpad and Mouse.
First of all configure the touchpad: open the menu of the same name and change the speed of the cursor by changing the touch sensitivity, using the parameter Touchpad Sensitivity and choosing between Low, Medium and High.
After configuring the touchpad, let’s go now to the Mouse menu and click on the item Additional Mouse Options.
We will be redirected to the classic menu for the mouse in the control panel, where we can change the sensitivity taking us to the Options tab of the pointer and acting on the selector under the Pointer Options entry.
This system is effective as long as you use simple work mice, but if we have gaming mice, we can avoid using this menu and using dedicated programs, as shown in the next part of the guide.
2) Programming of Gaming Mouse
On more expensive mice (gaming mice for example) we can act directly on the pointing device by pressing the button that increases the DPI value of the optical or laser sensor: at a higher PPE value corresponds to the speed of the cursor on the screen (and vice versa by pressing the button that decreases the DPI), without affecting the parameters set for the touchpad in any way (which we can adjust as seen in the previous paragraph).
Many gaming mice have associated programs that allow them to be programmed, so as to recall some specific speed and sensitivity profiles according to the program in use or the situation, even by pressing a particular mouse button or a combination of keys (we consider that on gaming mouse there are at least 4 additional keys to program freely).
This is the best way to get high speed and sensitivity on gaming mice; for this purpose we advise you to visit the website of the gaming mouse manufacturer in order to find the necessary program to configure it.

3) AutoSensitivity
AutoSensitivity is a free program that allows you to set a different sensitivity of the pointer depending on whether the cursor is moved via touchpad or external mouse.
AutoSensitivity is an open source program that runs on Windows 7 and 8.1 and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or 4.0 to run, downloadable from here -> .NET Framework.
Using this program we can configure the sensitivity for the touchpad and mouse, just run it and use the sliders to set different levels of sensitivity.
By clicking on the Get current button you set the cursor to the default level (the one set by Windows), of course you can try the different speed set up to find the one that suits for both.
Although the AutoSensitivity user interface is clear, before using it it is better to understand how it works; AutoSensitivity automatically detects the presence of the touchpad and mouse when connected to the handset.
It sets the sensitivity to the value selected for the touchpad, until a mouse is connected to the computer; from the interface, you can decide to run the program at system startup, in reduced mode (only the icon next to the clock appears).
Mouse Speed Switcher
Another program that we can use to adjust the speed of the mouse of the touchpad is Mouse Speed Switcher, downloadable from here -> Mouse Speed Switcher.
Once opened the program we can set up to 10 different profiles for the touchpad and mouse, so you can configure a profile for each type of need (for play, for work, etc.).
In order to change the profile we can either use the icon in the system tray or set shortcuts, so as to quickly recall the desired profile even when we use full-screen programs (for example, if we are playing and want more sensitivity, just press the right buttons for the gaming profile created for the mouse to have it immediately active).
Perhaps one of the most complete programs to be used for the purpose, but which requires a minimum of learning to be used correctly given the numerous items present.
