Uninstall unused extensions
The problem of blockages and/or slowdowns could be due to Extensions. In this case, therefore, we advise you to proceed with deactivation or uninstallation.
To do this, carefully follow the steps listed below:
- Open Google Chrome, press the 3 dots at the top right and choose Extensions in the Other Tools menu.
- At this point, via the browser’s Extensions page, you can proceed with disabling the desired extension by simply pressing the switch at the bottom right of the box. For complete removal, instead, double click on the Remove button.
Check the Task Manager
Within the popular Internet browsing program of the Californian giant there is a real task manager that allows you to monitor the resources consumed by each running component, including extensions.
So, to find out how to resolve if Chrome doesn’t respond and crashes through the task manager, carefully follow the steps listed below:
- Always open Google Chrome, click on the 3 vertical dots at the top right and choose Task Manager from the Other Tools menu. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the key combinations Shift + Esc on Windows or Cmd + Esc on macOS.
- Through the window that appears, press on the CPU column to sort the processes according to their consumption and then first click on the process in the Activity column with a simple left mouse click and then on the End process button on the bottom right.
Launch Google Chrome in secure mode
Although you have deactivated/uninstalled some extensions and closed processes using the task manager, Chrome continues to crash in an inexplicable way. For this reason we suggest starting it in safe mode. This special mode allows you to start the Internet browsing program without any extension enabled.
If you have a Windows PC, type the term run in the Start search field and then click on first result. At this point, paste the code "C: Program Files (x86) GoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe" –disable-extensions –disable-plugins and click OK or enter the keyboard.
On Mac, instead, open the Terminal from the Launchpad Applications folder , type the code /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome –disable-extensions –disable-plugins and press the Enter button from the keyboard.
Create a new user
Is Google Chrome not responding and it still crashes? You can try to solve by creating a new user so as to reset all the customizations made.
Let’s see together the steps to follow:
- Start the browser of the Mountain View giant, press on the little man in the top right corner (or on the profile picture if you have set an image) and choose Manage users from the menu that appears.
- Now, through the window shown, press the Add person button at the bottom right, follow the directions by entering the name and any avatar and click Add to add the new profile.
Restore the initial settings
If you haven’t solved any of the indications given earlier, then the last resort is to completely reset Google Chrome to its initial settings.
To do this, carefully follow the steps listed below:
- Open the browser, press the 3 dots at the top right and click on Settings.
- After that, scroll down the page, click on Advanced and locate the Reset and clean up section.
- At this point, choose Restore original defaults and confirm by pressing the Reset button from the warning that appears.
