Inch is not a measure that we already know the result of the head. But do you know it is not just to measure the size of the screen? What is the positioning distance? In what environment it is best?
How to measure the size of the TV screens
The TV screen size is measured in inches, represented by double quotes (“). One inch is 2.54 centimeters and the TVs are measured by the diagonal, from the upper tip on the left side to the other lower tip on the right side (or vice versa).
So in the case of a small television, 40 inches, for example, the measurement of the TV screen between one edge and another, diagonally, is approximately 1.1 meters.
Just do the following:
- amount of inches x 2.54 cm = TV screen length diagonally.
Is it all luxury?
Increasingly, the size of a screen is not only about luxury – of course, from a certain size, we can consider it to be ostentation – but the screen size of a TV is related to the use of the content displayed and the environment in which it fits.
The so-called positioning distance is what defines how close to the TV a person can sit – not in the matter of being harmful to the eyes, but of the correct visualization of the image in the best use. This depends on the following factors: video quality, screen resolution and panel size.
Panasonic showed a simple formula to calculate this distance:
- Standard definition (SD):
diagonal measurement of the screen x 3.5 = recommended positioning distance; - High Definition (HD):
diagonal measurement of the screen x 2.5 = recommended positioning distance; - 4K (UHD):
diagonal measurement of the screen x 1.5 = recommended positioning distance.
That is, the better the picture quality and TVs, the closer you can sit without noticing loss of image quality or seeing a few pixels up close.
As the manufacturer explains:
“A few years ago televisions were extremely blurry when viewed at a short distance from the TV. In order for the pixels to be combined on the screen to form a homogeneous image for the human eye, it was necessary for an individual to be more distant from the television.”
Where to install TV?
Whereas the larger a TV, the greater the distance between the viewer and the device, the manufacturers recommend some models specific to each environment or available space, such as the living room, your bedroom or movie theater.
Considering a device with 4K resolution, Samsung suggests:
- Up to 2 meters: TVs up to 50 inches;
- Between 2 and 2.5 meters: from 50 to 55 inches;
- Between 2.5 and 3 meters: 65 inches;
- Above 3 meters: 75 and 82 inches.
Already Panasonic suggests the following:
- Up to 2 meters: 32-inch TVs;
- Between 2 and 2.5 meters: 40 to 43 inches;
- Between 2.5 and 3 meters: 49 and 50 inches;
- Above 3.5 meters: 55-58 inches (for HD content);
- Above 4 meters: 65 inches (for HD content, in case of contents in 4K, one can enjoy in a distance of 2.5 meters).
Consult the manufacturer to position your TV model more appropriately. Now that you know how the size of the TV screens is measured, do your math.
