Making GIF in WhatsApp with the camera phone is a simple task with Gboard, an application for Android and iPhone ( iOS ) that lets you send animated images in chatting apps and social networks. With Google’s virtual keyboard, the user can record up to three seconds of video, plus text and drawings. The result is converted into an animated GIF that can be shared. The feature is useful for those interested in personalizing your messenger experience, because it allows you to create creative and dynamic videos.
In the following tutorial, learn how to use the Gboard tool to create your own GIFs and send them to WhatsApp. The procedures were performed on a Moto E5 Plus with Android 8.0 Oreo and on iPhone 8 with the iOS 12 system, but the tips are valid for other phones with Google and Apple software.
On Android
Step 1. Open the conversation with the friend or group to whom you want to send the GIF. On the Gboard, touch the face icon to the left of the space bar. Then go to the “GIF” tab, open “My GIFs” and select “Create a GIF”;
Step 2. The cell phone camera will open. Touch the icon to the right of the capture button to add special effects to the images. After selecting the desired item, go over the capture button to record a video of up to three seconds;
Step 3. If you want, touch the button in the upper right corner of the screen to add texts. After making the desired settings, tap the send button and, return to WhatsApp, tap the send button again to confirm.
On the iPhone
Step 1. Open the conversation with the friend or group to whom you want to send the GIF. On the Gboard, touch the camera icon with the infinity symbol. Then go over the icon to the right of the capture button to add special effects to the images. You can also choose between “Loop” (to repeat the video in sequence) and “Fast forward”, which speeds up the images. Then just hold the capture button to record a video of up to three seconds;
Step 2. If you want, touch the button in the upper right corner of the screen to add text. Type the desired phrase and tap Done. After making the desired settings, select “Send” in the lower right corner of the screen;
Step 3. The GIF will be copied to your phone’s clipboard. To use, tap on the text field, then go to “Paste.” Finally, confirm the submission by touching the button in the lower right corner.
