Preliminary operations
Before getting to the heart of our new tutorial today, it is necessary to perform some preliminary operations that include the installation of the ADB drivers on the computer and the activation of USB debugging.
For the uninitiated, the ADB ( Android Debug Bridge ) is a tool that allows you to allow easy communication between an Android device and a computer and to access features otherwise not accessible from the device itself.
To be able to download ADB, you just need to download the SDK Platform Tools by connecting to the download page on the Android Developer site and pressing Download SDK Platform Tools for Windows, Download SDK Platform Tools for Mac or Download SDK Platform Tools for Linux depending on of the operating system in your possession.
Alternatively, you can directly download Android Studio which allows you to install ADB more easily through the SDK Manager. You can proceed with downloading the suite by connecting to the dedicated Web page, always present on the Android Developer site, by clicking on the Download Android Studio button. If the Internet portal has not correctly detected the operating system installed on your computer, then press on the Download Options item and click on the correct link.
Once ADB and its drivers have been successfully installed on your computer, you can now proceed to enable USB debugging via Settings.
Let’s see how to proceed:
- Open the Android Settings by pressing on the gear icon on the main screen, in the drawer or by pulling down the notifications curtain and then choose Info on the phone.
- Now, you find the Build number item and plug it on it 7 consecutive times until a message appears indicating the correct activation of the developer options.
- In the next step, go back to the Settings menu and choose Developer Options.
- Completed the procedure identifying the wording Debug USB and pressing on the dedicated switch bringing it from OFF to ON.
