Free Fire was the world’s most downloaded mobile game for Android and iPhone (iOS) in 2019. According to App Annie, an American mobile market trend analysis report, Garena’s game topped PUBG Mobile’s downloads and veteran Subway Surfers, which complete the podium in second and third place respectively. The company unveiled the top ten most downloaded smartphone titles on the App Store and Google Play Store, but did not release their install numbers.

The popularity of Free Fire can be attributed to its accessibility: the free game has light minimum requirements and the title is famous for running on even the most basic gadgets. That year, the game also promoted several tournaments to boost its competitive landscape and the championships broke audience records. In 2018, the same report left Free Fire off the podium. At the time, the three most downloaded apps in the top two app stores were Helix Jump, Subway Surfers, and PUBG Mobile. Garena’s game occupied the fourth position.
Note that PUBG Mobile has just surpassed the 600 million download mark. The number was reached by Battle Royale thanks in particular to the PMCO Fall Split Global Finals 2019 tournament, which ended early December and reached a milestone of over 500 million views. The winner was Indonesia’s Bigetron RA, which won the $205,000 prize pool.
The recently released Call Of Duty: Mobile, which reached 170 million downloads in just two months of release, appears in tenth place in the ranking. Here’s the top ten most downloaded mobile games of 2019.
