The Xbox Live Gold is the service Microsoft to allow owners of Xbox One or Xbox 360 to play online multiplayer and have other benefits. Without the service subscription, online features are disabled, for offline play only. It works like Sony’s PlayStation Plus for the PS4.
What is Xbox Live Gold
As stated, if you plan to play online with Xbox, you must have an Xbox Live Gold account and active subscription. For example: it is not possible to play Fortnite without having the service to activate online features.
In addition, Xbox Live Gold also includes other benefits:
- Games with Gold: Offers four free games every month; two for Xbox One and two for Xbox 360. Recalling that those who have Xbox One can play Xbox 360 games through the backwards compatibility feature.
- Deals with Gold : Exclusive offers for subscribers on a list of selected games. Promotions can vary between 50% and 75% in the title price.
When does Xbox Live Gold cost
You can subscribe it for a monthly fee of $9.99, directly from the Microsoft store. In addition to the monthly fee, users can join the quarterly ($24.99) or annual ($59.99) plan.
Those who do not have a credit card can choose to buy prepaid cards sold in supermarkets or specialized stores. Then, simply enter the card code into your Xbox Live account to redeem Gold.
Xbox Live Gold is also included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It is another way to subscribe to the service and still have access to a catalog of free games. The value of the Game Pass Ultimate is $14.99 per month.
Does it worth buying?
If you intend to play online with Xbox, it is not even a question of whether or not it is worth it. It must be a value to include in the budget and period worksheets.
However, if you don’t think about it and want to enjoy the console without internet (in local multiplayer), you may not need to keep your subscription active every month.
I would think of the service more for the free games offered every month. As a way to always have something new to play with.
As much as Xbox Live Gold costs the same as Xbox Game Pass – which also offers a library of free games -, if I were to choose between one and the other, I would keep the service so I could also play online with friends.
