Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL get TWRP recovery support

Pixel devices are known to be one of the easiest smartphones to develop among those currently on the market. On the other hand, we are talking about phones with the Android experience “standard”, with an easily unlockable bootloader (at least in the international version), and without any problem in terms of flashing through fastboot.

All these very positive characteristics can only prove to be of great help to the growing community of developers, who can work much more freely with the aim of providing continuous improvements. The famous XDA forum is indeed “full” of custom ROMs, custom kernels and recovery like TWRP, which must however be installed on the device via custom restoration.

The latest representatives of the series, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, were released just a month ago. Both devices are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, combined with 4 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of internal memory, in addition to a wireless charging, an IP68 certification that guarantees great resistance to water and dust and other features.

At this time, the most famous personalized recovery (and also the most appreciated) is certainly TWRP. It has official support for many devices, as you can see on the official website. Today, the founder Dees_Troy announced the official TWRP support for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, which is certainly excellent news for owners of these two devices.

However, even in this case it is necessary to unlock the bootloader before proceeding. Since Pixel devices use A/B partitions, the TWRP flashing procedure is always slightly more complicated than the typical “fastboot flash” command. The user must first start TWRP via the fastboot image, and only then flash the ZIP using the TWRP already started.

The official support of TWRP recovery will push the ever-expanding developer community to develop even more ROMs, kernels and custom device recoveries.
