Privacy Policy for FollowPulse

FollowPulse (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Instagram Account Data

When you sync your account, we collect and process the following information from your Instagram profile:

  • Username and Full Name
  • Profile Picture URL
  • Instagram User ID
  • List of followers and accounts you follow

1.2. Data Ingestion Methods

We collect this data through two methods initiated by you:

  • Data Import: You may choose to upload an official Instagram data export (ZIP file). We process this locally on your device to build your follower history.
  • Account Sync: If you log in via our secure internal browser, we capture an authentication session ID to sync your lists directly from Instagram.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information solely to provide the core features of FollowPulse, including:

  • Tracking users who unfollowed you.
  • Identifying “Ghost Followers” (users who don’t interact or follow back).
  • Showing trends and milestones regarding your account growth.
  • Sending you local reminders and notifications.

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1. Local Storage

FollowPulse is designed with a “Local-First” philosophy. Most of your social graph data is stored in a secure SQLite database on your device.

3.2. Secure Credentials

Sensitive authentication data (like session tokens) is stored using your device’s native secure enclave (via Expo SecureStore). We do not store your Instagram password.

3.3. Backend Processing

To perform complex syncing and batch actions, some data is processed by a backend service. This data is used only for the duration of the request and is not sold to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

FollowPulse interacts with Instagram (Meta Platforms, Inc.). Your use of Instagram is governed by Meta’s Privacy Policy. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking pixels (e.g., Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel).

5. Your Rights and Data Deletion

You have full control over your data:

  • Logout: Logging out will clear your session tokens from the device.
  • Delete Account: You can delete your local database at any time through the Settings menu, which removes all tracked history.
  • App Uninstallation: Uninstalling the app will remove all locally stored social graph data.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Effective Date.”
