PawPrint (“the App,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a mobile application owned and operated by Palakodeti Nandini (the “Owner”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how. The short version: PawPrint keeps your pet records on your device. The only moment anything leaves your phone is when you choose to scan a receipt — we explain exactly what happens then in Section 2 below.
1. Information We Handle
A. Information you provide inside the App
- Pet profiles — names, species, breeds, dates of birth, and optional photos.
- Records — vet visits, vaccines, weights, medications, symptoms, and free-text notes.
- Expenses — manually entered or scanned vendor names, amounts, categories, and receipt images.
- Reminders — schedules you set for doses, boosters, and follow-ups.
- Support messages — if you email us, we receive the email address and contents of the message you send.
B. Information generated by the App
- Derived views — weight trends, expense totals, and reminder queues are computed on your device from the data you entered.
- PDF reports — generated locally on your device when you ask for one.
C. Information we do not collect
- We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, IP addresses, or location data.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or user-tracking services.
- We do not require a user account or password.
- We do not collect or process payment information.
2. AI Receipt Scanning (Google Gemini)
The App uses Google Gemini (model gemini-2.5-flash-lite, hosted by Google) to read text out of the receipts you choose to scan. This is the only external service used in PawPrint.
- What triggers it: only you — by tapping the shutter button on the scanner screen. The App never captures or transmits images in the background.
- What is sent: the single image you captured, together with a static instruction prompt that asks Gemini to return vendor name, date, total, line items, medications, and any follow-up date as structured JSON. Nothing else is attached — no user ID, no device ID, no IP, no account information (there is no account).
- Where it goes: over an encrypted HTTPS/TLS connection to Google’s Generative Language API.
- What Google does with it: Google uses it to produce the response and nothing else. Under Google’s paid Gemini API terms, the inputs and outputs are not used to train Google’s models, not retained after the response, and not linked to any identity.
- What we do with it: we parse the structured JSON, show it to you for review, and write your approved fields to the App’s local database on your device. We do not log, store, or forward the image anywhere.
- You are in control: if you never tap the scan button, nothing ever leaves your phone.
3. How Your Data Is Stored
Your pet profiles, records, expenses, reminders, pet photos, and any PDFs you generate are stored only on your device, in an on-device SQLite database and the App’s local file system. There is no server, no cloud sync, no backup to our infrastructure. The Owner has no way of accessing your data.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the data you enter into the App only to power the App itself — to display your records, compute totals and trends, generate reports, and fire local reminders. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the App’s stated features.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell or share your personal data for marketing, analytics, or advertising purposes. Your data leaves your device only in the two situations described above:
- Receipt scanning — when you tap to scan, the specific image is sent to Google Gemini for the single purpose of text extraction (see Section 2).
- Your own export — when you explicitly use the App’s “Export backup” feature or share a PDF report via your device’s native share sheet (Messages, Mail, AirDrop, etc.), you choose where it goes.
6. International Data Transfers
Google Gemini is operated by Google LLC and its processing facilities may be located in the United States or other countries. If you use the scanner in a region with stricter data-transfer requirements (for example, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland), note that the single image you choose to scan will transit to Google’s infrastructure for processing. Google provides standard contractual clauses and other safeguards for its API services. If you do not wish for any data to leave your region, simply do not use the scanner — all other App features work fully offline.
7. Local Notifications
PawPrint fires local notifications (scheduled by your device’s operating system) for reminders you set up. No push-notification server is involved, and no message content leaves your device. You can turn notifications off at any time from your device’s Settings.
8. Your Rights
Because all your data lives on your device, you are in complete control:
- Access — everything is visible inside the App at all times.
- Rectification — edit or delete any entry directly in the App.
- Portability — export a full JSON backup of everything with one tap in Settings.
- Erasure — delete individual records, a full pet, or wipe every byte of App data from the Settings → “Reset to fresh install” option. Uninstalling the App also removes all data.
- GDPR users (EEA / UK / Switzerland): the rights above satisfy your rights under Articles 15–20 of the GDPR. Our legal basis for the limited on-device processing is your consent (by using the App) and legitimate interest in providing the features you installed the App for.
- CCPA users (California): we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA. You retain the right to access and delete your data via the mechanisms above.
9. Children’s Privacy
PawPrint is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone below the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction (16 in most of the European Union, 13 in the United States, and as defined by local law elsewhere). If you believe a child has used the App to enter personal data, uninstall the App — that removes all local data from the device.
10. Security
Data is stored on your device and protected by your device’s operating system security (passcode, biometrics, full-device encryption). The single transmission to Google Gemini described above is protected by TLS in transit.
11. Veterinary Disclaimer
PawPrint is an organizational tool. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment for pets. Always consult a licensed veterinarian about your pet’s health.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Effective date” at the top of this document and, where appropriate, with an in-App notice the next time you open the App.
