WhatsApp will no longer work on iPhones that will not support updates. Here is the list of interested models.
It’s official: WhatsApp on iPhone will stop working. In more detail, in the next few years the popular messaging app will no longer be supported by older and obsolete versions of Apple’s mobile OS.
The list of smartphones that will say goodbye to WhatsApp is therefore destined to expand: if starting from 1 January 2019 the service is no longer available for devices with Nokia S40, in one year WhatsApp will also abandon smartphones with Android 2.3.7, and iPhone with iOS 7. This means that those who own an iPhone 4 or with installed the old version of the operating system will have to buy a new phone or update if they want to continue using WhatsApp.
The Nokia S40 operating system was released in 2014 and has been installed by over one billion phones worldwide. In a post on its blog, the company said, “This was a difficult decision to make, but the right decision to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp.” If you have a phone with Nokia S40, you have no choice but to update your device if you want to continue using WhatsApp.
WhatsApp will no longer work on these phones
After saying goodbye to Windows Phone 8.0, BlackBerry, BlackBerry 10, Nokia Symbian S60 and iPhone 3GS / iOS 6, WhatsApp Messenger is planning to abandon support for iOS 7. It will be in fact the operating system released in 2013 the next of a long list of OS on which WhatsApp will no longer work.
iOS 7 is fully compatible with iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 5c and iPod Touch of 5th Gen, as well as with iPad 2, iPad Air, iPad Mini and iPad 2 of Gen 2.
Considering the time since its release and the release of iOS 12 in September 2018 along with the new iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, it is not surprising that this obsolete version will not be considered for future updates of WhatsApp, which instead it is always more innovative and full of features.
That’s when Whatsapp will stop working on iOS 7 and which are the iPhone that will no longer be able to use the app.
When will you say goodbye
Whatsapp will stop being supported on iOS 7 from February 2020, but the time to update the operating system or change phone is not as much as it may seem. The Whatsapp team, in fact, has already stopped the development on this platform, so some features could start to give problems in the coming months.
iOS 7 will not be the only OS to be abandoned by the messaging app: even Android Gingerbread will suffer the same fate and both OS will be preceded by the farewell to the Nokia S40.
Which iPhone will no longer be able to use Whatsapp?
The problem remains however relative, since there are few iPhones that can not update their operating system to a version later than iOS 7.
Only the iPhone 4 or earlier, in fact, will have to give up entirely to the use of the messaging app. The other models, such as the 5s, will be able to upgrade to newer iOS without problems. The nice news of iOS 12, in fact, is that all the iPhone and iPad compatible with iOS 11, then even the older ones, will receive the update in the fall.
The iPhone 4 was released on the market for the first time in 2010, the year in which the iPad was presented. The day on which Whatsapp will no longer be supported on this smartphone will have already passed 10 years.
The messaging company’s move is therefore understandable, even in light of the few problems that it should create: the will is to focus the efforts of developers on the platforms used by most people and thus improve the overall user experience.
