You have closed the app on iPhone the same way for years – just press the Home button. The same thing with the forced closing of the app: just double-tap the Home button, then scroll up the app you want to close.
Now it does not work anymore. Because the iPhone X does not have a Home button, there’s a new way to close apps on iPhone X or force it to close. Follow these steps.
June 5 update: in the next iOS 12, Apple will make it much easier to close the app. Scroll up, then slide up on the app again. But for now it is necessary to use the following instructions.
How to close an app on iPhone X
1. Position your finger towards the bottom of the display and scroll up.
The app will close and you will return to the main screen.
How to force closing apps on iPhone X
Scroll up from the bottom of the screen and keep your finger pressed on the display for about half a second. You’ll see the App Switcher appear with your apps arranged like a stack of cards stacked from left to right.
Long press on the screen. You should see a minus sign in the upper left corner of all apps in the App Switcher menu.
Scroll up on the app you want to force the exit to or touch the minus icon.
