HIDE THE ICONS FROM THE MAC DESKSTOP

Today I’ll explain in a very simple and straightforward way on how to hide on shortcut icons from the desktop of your Mac!

How many times have you been able to make presentations or screenshots of your desk and find there a myriad of icons?

Of course it’s not nice to show your personal folders or documents to others.

One solution would be to move all the folders to a different location on your Mac, for example in the documents folder, but honestly it’s a hassle, especially if your desk is overcrowded.

So how can we hide the icons from the desk quickly?

HIDE THE ICONS FROM THE MAC DESK!

Once again your beloved dear Terminal will come to the rescue. But let’s see how:

  • Go to your “Other” folder or alternatively type “Terminal” from Spotlight.
  • Now enter the following string on the screen:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop false

  • Press the “Enter” key.
  • Now type this command:

killall Finder

  • Press the “Enter” key.

Check now your desk and you will see that all your personal documents, files and folders will be temporarily gone! ATTENTION, not eliminated of course, were simply “hidden“.

In fact, to restore everything, proceed as follows:

  • Also from “Terminal” launch the following command:

defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true

  • Press the “Enter” key.
  • Now type this:

killall Finder

  • Press the “Enter” key.

Now as if by magic you will see all your personal documents reappear, easy no?
