You can create or edit an Xbox avatar by computer using Windows 10. The Microsoft offers two distinct applications for classical and modern versions of avatars. You have both, either on your Xbox 360 console or Xbox One console.

There are two official avatar applications for Windows 10: the original Avatars of the Xbox, which is the publisher of the classic avatars, compatible with Windows 10, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and the Xbox Avatar Editor, aimed at creating the avatars modern, only for the Xbox One and Windows 10, that implemented a series of new options of customization, focusing on diversity and representativeness.

1. Using the Xbox Avatar Editor

  1. Download and install the Xbox Avatar Editor app for Windows 10;
  2. Open the application, and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    If it is the same one you use on your Xbox One, and if you have already created an avatar there, it will be the first avatars option on the list;
  3. If you do not have an avatar, click on one of the displayed templates;
  4. If you already have an avatar, but want to create a new one, after selecting it, click Settings (the gear icon), and then click Create new avatar.
    The old avatar will be erased;
  5. In the Closet, Appearance and Humor options, you can customize the overall appearance of your avatar with its physical characteristics, including the use of prosthetics in the arms or legs, or the addition of accessories such as wheelchairs.
    The customization and clothing options are free for any type of avatar, and have no gender restrictions;
  6. Once your changes are complete, click Save.
    The app will load the modifications to the Xbox servers, and the avatar will be made available on Xbox One.

2. Using the Original Xbox Avatars

  1. Download and install the Xbox Original Avatars app for Windows 10;
  2. Open the application, and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    If it is the same one that you use on your Xbox One or Xbox 360, and if you have already created an avatar there, it will be loaded;
  3. If you do not have an avatar, click on one of the displayed templates, or use the Shuffle option, and select the one you like most;
  4. If you already have an avatar, but want to create a new one, click Settings (the gear icon), and then click Create new avatar.
    The old avatar will be erased;
  5. Click the Customize button (the pencil icon ) and access the customization settings for your avatar;
  6. In Style (the hanger icon), you can choose the clothes among some available;
  7. After the changes, click Save.
    The avatar will be uploaded to the servers, and displayed on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In both applications, such as Xbox One and Xbox 360, some customization options are paid for, usually garments, accessories, and other items for personalization. The basic appearance customizations (gender, skin color, eyes, beard, etc.), however, are free.

By comparison, the Xbox Avatar Editor app offers much more customization options than the original Xbox Avatars. But on the other hand, your creations are not compatible with Xbox 360.
