It is possible to set a video as wallpaper and on a Windows PC, and make your desktop more lively. Thanks to VLC Media Player, which has such a function, you can choose your favorite video and leave it in playback, to give a more personal touch to your computer. Here’s how.
How to put a video as wallpaper on your PC
VLC Media Player, one of the simplest and most versatile video players out there, has a tool that lets you view the video playing as animated wallpaper, hiding all program controls. Here’s what you need to do.
- Download and install VLC Media Player;
- Open the program, and run the video you want to use as an animated wallpaper;
- Click “Video” and then “Set as Wallpaper”.
If you are running the video in full screen, right click on the video, then “Video” and finally “Set as Wallpaper”; - To repeat the looped video, enable the “Repeat One” or “Repeat All” option if you choose more than one video;
- To exit Wallpaper mode, right click on the video, then “Video”, “Set as Wallpaper”.
And ready.
VLC will play the video as a wallpaper, as if you were using the full-screen program; you can control the player normally, such as forward and backward video, decrease the sound. The difference is that it can be superimposed by Windows controls, although they are hidden. To do this, press the “Windows” key.
On the other hand, VLC will hide all your Desktop icons, while the files stored there can only be accessed by the File Explorer. To re-access them directly, turn off the VLC Media Player wallpaper mode.
