Would you like to create an e-mail address on Hotmail but did you know that unfortunately the service is no longer available? This is true, but I have to give you good news: you can still open a Hotmail account.

All you need to do is contact Outlook.com, the Microsoft mail service created from the ashes of Windows Live Mail (which had taken over Hotmail’s place). By registering to it, you can have a free mailbox with a hotmail.com suffix including 15GB of cloud space and access to all online services of the Redmond giant: Skype, Office Online, OneDrive etc.

Outlook.com email accounts can be used directly from the browser, by connecting to the outlook.com site, in traditional email clients such as Outlook and Thunderbird and on mobile devices with any app suitable for the purpose (there is also the official Outlook one). Find all the details below.

To create Hotmail emails, all you have to do is connect to the Outlook.com website and click on the Subscribe item located at the bottom right. You will be offered a form long enough that you will have to fill in every field: name, surname, username, password, country, postcode, date of birth and sex of belonging.

Pay close attention to the Username field: here you have to enter what will become your e-mail address and you have to choose the hotmail.com suffix from the adjacent drop-down menu, otherwise an outlook.com e-mail address will be created and not hotmail.com.

Do not forget to provide a secondary email address or mobile phone number to retrieve your account login in case of loss and copy the verification code in the text field at the bottom of the page. Finally, press the button Create account and wait a few seconds to access your new mailbox. Easily remove the checkmark from the entry for Microsoft promotional information.

To configure your new Hotmail account in an email client, such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Mail, use the following parameters ( more info here ).

  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap-mail.outlook.com
  • Port: 993
  • Encrypted connection: SSL
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp-mail.outlook.com
  • Port: 25 or 587
  • Authentication: yes
  • Encrypted connection: TLS
  • Username: email address @hotmail.com
  • Password: password chosen during account creation

If the above parameters do not work, try these others.

  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): outlook.office365.com
  • Port: 993
  • Encrypted connection: SSL
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.office365.com
  • Port: 587
  • Authentication: yes
  • Encrypted connection: TLS

How to create Hotmail account-2

Now let’s see how to create Hotmail emails from smartphones or tablets: yes, you can do that too! Just get the official Outlook app for AndroidiPhone or Windows Phone, start it, skip all the screens of the initial presentation and press the Start button.

Well, then select the Outlook.com logo, press on the Subscribe now option and fill out the registration form with the information previously seen for the computer procedure: name, surname, username, password, country, ZIP code, date of birth, kind of belonging and mobile number or secondary email address for the recovery of access data.

Even from a mobile device, you have to manually set the Hotmail.com suffix, in the drop-down menu located under the Microsoft account name. To conclude, copy the security code at the bottom of the page, press the Create account button and you will be automatically redirected to your new mailbox.
