Android: what to do if an app crashes

Whether you are a beginner in Android or a more advanced user, we have all been dealing with an Android application that refuses to work properly. Unfortunately, these bugs do not really have a quick fix. On the other hand, we can offer you some tips to react correctly in case of problems. Follow the guide

Restart your Android smartphone

Before thinking about more radical solutions, first, try restarting your smartphone. If you have not restarted your Android device for a long time, this action may work. Rebooting will reset your smartphone to open applications and processes. All these apps open in the background on your Android smartphone can have a real negative effect in the long run. If the problem is minor, the restart should be enough.

Force the shutdown of the Android application

Before coming to its more extreme solutions, start by forcing the shutdown of this faulty Android application. Even if you have already closed it, an application may continue to run in the background due to a bug. To force a stop, simply:

  • go to the settings
  • then in Applications and Notifications
  • choose the Android application that is problematic
  • press Force stop

Clear the cache of the Android app

In case of problem, the second essential step is to clear the cache of the application in question. To empty the cache of an Android application, it’s very simple:

  • go to Settings ,
  • then in Applications and Notifications
  • choose the Android application that is problematic
  • See you in Storage
  • Click Clear Cache

At the next opening, your application will be a little slower to launch but this maneuver could have solved the problem if it is not too serious. Avoid clicking on “delete data”. This action will delete the data saved at the time of identification.

Check if an update is available for the Android app

The problem may have already been noticed by the developers of the application. With a little luck, an update containing a patch is already available. To check if an update of the application is available, all you need to do is:

  • go to the Google Play Store app
  • go to the drop-down menu on the left
  • tap My games and apps
  • choose Update All

Uninstall and then reinstall the Android app

If all these tips have still not given you, you will have to uninstall the application that causes you problems. For that, you just need to:

  • Visit the Google Play Store app
  • Find the application in question and click Uninstall
  • Wait a few moments before pressing Install

Of course, this solution is only possible in the case of an application that you have installed yourself. If it was native to your Android smartphone, you still have the option to root it to remove the application or remove the latest updates. One of these two solutions should be able to solve the problem too.

Restore the factory configuration of your Android smartphone

If the above methods did not work, you will have to use the strong method. You will have to restore your smartphones to its factory settings. Before doing this however, there are some essential steps to follow. First of all, we advise you to save the personal data of your Android smartphone. To restore your smartphone to factory settings:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Click System and then  Reset Options
  • Tap Clear all data (restore factory settings
  • Once this is done, select the option to reboot the device.
  • Configure the device and restore the data that you backed up.
