If you have enabled two-factor authentication on iPhone or iPad

  1. Go to the iOS settings
  2. Click on your name and then on iCloud
  3. Click on Find My iPhone
  4. Move the lever next to the option Find my iPhone from ON to OFF
  5. In the opened Apple ID password screen, type a wrong password
  6. Press the Deactivate button twice in a row
  7. Click on the Reset password option
  8. If you have an access code enabled, to reset the password you will simply need to enter it in the Access code screen. If not, confirm your phone number by typing it in the Phone number field
  9. Click on the Next button at the top right
  10. Click on the Reset button with phone number
  11. You will receive an SMS with a verification code: if this is not automatically entered in the Verification code field, enter it manually to access the next screen
  12. Then type the security code you’ve set up on one of the other devices associated with your Apple ID
  13. Click on the Next button
  14. Type the new password in the Password and Confirm fields
  15. Click on the Next button to complete the procedure
  16. You will see that the lever next to the item Find My iPhone has automatically moved to OFF

If you no longer have access to your phone number and you can not reset your password by following the instructions just given, enter your phone number on the Confirm phone number screen, then click on the entry Do not have access to your registered number? and choose the Reset from another device option.

On the next screen you can see the message A message with instructions has been sent to [device name]: access the indicated device and follow the instructions shown.

If you have NOT enabled two-factor authentication on iPhone or iPad

If two-factor authentication is not enabled on your account:

  1. Access the iOS settings
  2. Click on your name
  3. Click on iCloud and then on Find My iPhone
  4. Move the lever next to the item Find my iPhone from ON to OFF
  5. In the new screen that opened, type in a wrong password, press the Deactivate button twice and click on Reset password
  6. On the Forgot your password screen, verify that the displayed Apple ID is correct
  7. Click on the Next button
  8. Choose one of the password recovery options available between Use security questions and Use email. 

In the first case, enter your date of birth and click on the Next button, then type the answer to the two security questions and press the Next button at the top right. Enter the new password in the Password and Confirm fields, click on the Next and End buttons and Find My iPhone will be automatically deactivated.

If you chose the Use email option instead, password reset instructions will be sent via email. Then open the email received and click on the item Reset to connect to the Apple site. Enter the new password in the New password and Confirm password fields and click the Reset password button. Then access the iOS Settings, click on your name, select the iCloud and Find My iPhone items, move the lever from ON to OFF and type in the new password.

Turn off Find my iPhone without credentials
