Recover deleted SMS messages via PC
There are several PC programs that can explore the darkest meanders of your Android and retrieve data, and many of these work naturally also on Mac. Most of these programs are completely free or, at least, can be tested for free for a initial trial period. Among the best known we find Coolmuster and Android Data Recovery, but for this guide we have chosen Dr.Fone, in my opinion among the most simple and intuitive. Dr.Fone is compatible with many Android devices and allows you to retrieve not only SMS but also contacts, photos, video call history, etc.
Once you download the program you like most on your computer, you will not need any other tools, just your Android smartphone and a USB cable to connect it to your computer. The procedure to follow is practically the same with all programs.
How to proceed
Now that you have installed the desired program on your computer, you will have to put your hand to the smartphone and follow this path: Settings> About Phone and touch the Build version several times to make the menu called Developer options appear among the settings. Once visible, from this menu you have to activate the USB Debug entry. Done? Well, you just have to start the program and connect your device to the computer.
At this point, have a little ‘patience because the program may take a few minutes to recognize your device because of the installation of drivers. In case it does not recognize the smartphone, check the USB settings from the notification menu and allow the exchange of files.
The faster you are, the more deleted messages you will be able to recover
Once the device is recognized, the program will show you all the sections of the system and will ask you to select the type of file you wish to recover. Naturally, in this case, you will need to select the Messages item. Note that among the options of Dr.Fone you will also have the possibility to choose WhatsApp messages.
Start the procedure. Once the scan is complete, you will have access to the saved files (whether they are deleted or still on the device) and you can view the previews to select the messages to be recovered. If the part of the memory on which these files were originally saved has not yet been overwritten, you will have the possibility to recover them. This is why it is important to act quickly.
How to avoid deleting SMS in the future
If you want to avoid paying for these programs in the future, the best thing to do is to prevent. This means making a backup of the messages right away. There are many applications available in the Play Store, SMS Backup & Restore is one of these, easy to use and effective. Another good alternative is SMS Backup +.
The graphics are not the most modern but the application has been updated recently, so you can trust it. Once you open the app, which can be downloaded for free in just a few seconds, all you have to do is select the backup option, select the place where you want to save the SMS messages and choose the conversation you want to back up. Start the process and … done!
I recommend, always give a name to the folders you create, otherwise it will be difficult to identify them later.
And if you do not use the SMS anymore because it is WhatsApp the tool with which you usually communicate with friends, colleagues and relatives, here is our guide dedicated to backup:
