Reaching the maximum level of upgrade of the house is not a mandatory objective of Animal Crossing or hinders the progress of any other element of the game, it is just a way to have more space to store items or create environments to display to friends or spend time. Find out how and how much it costs to upgrade your home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to upgrade the house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Before he starts asking for new expansions, Tom Nook demands that you pay the first debt of the escape package he sold you. This includes everything from the tent to the Nook Phone – I know, nobody asked, but he already included it in the combo!
That first debt is paid in Nook Miles – those points earned by completing tasks in the game. The total amount is 5,000 Nook Miles and once that debt is paid, Tom Nook will start offering the new buildings.
From tent to home – the first upgrade:
When paying off the first debt, Tom Nook will offer to turn the tent into a home. It’s not that big, but it’s better than sleeping in a tent. The cost of this expansion is 98,000 Bells and also includes the house’s inventory with storage of 80 items.
Thereafter, no further increases can be paid on Nook Miles, only on Bells. And payment must be made through the ABD of the Nook Stop (the ATM located inside the Home Services tent).
The process becomes the same for future upgrade:
- Pay the current debt through the Nook Stop ABD;
- Talk to Tom Nook about your home;
- Say you want to expand;
- Accept the new credit proposal;
- Repeat the process, paying the new debt at the Nook Stop.
As for the new facilities, these are the costs to increase the home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
- Second expansion:
More space in the main room and a total of 120 slots in the home’s inventory.
It will cost 198,000 Bells; - Third expansion:
Adds a room at the bottom and increases the inventory to 240.
It will cost 348,000 Bells; - Fourth expansion:
Adds a room on the left and increases the inventory to 360. It will
cost 548,000 Bells. It also allows customization of the mailbox and the color of the roof; - Fifth expansion:
Adds a room on the right and increases the inventory to 400.
It will cost 758,000 Bells. Allows customization of the door; - Sixth expansion:
Adds a room on the second floor. The inventory will have a capacity of 800 items.
It will cost 1,248,000 Bells. It will allow to personalize the facade of the house; - Seventh and last expansion:
Adds the basement. The inventory jumps to 1,600 spaces.
It will cost 2,498,000 Bells.
Once all expansions are complete and all debt to Tom Nook paid off, he will no longer charge for customizations in the house. Then, once a day you can change the facade, roof and mailbox of the house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
I still don’t know what to do with so many rooms. But, I wanted at least the main one to be a little bigger.
