Use your Android as a WiFi repeater without root

We feel frustrated when a Wi-Fi signal is near but is almost out of reach of our device. Sometimes, the Wi-Fi router does not cover the whole house and this is where Wi-Fi repeaters or Wi-Fi extenders come into play.

To solve this signal coverage problem, you can purchase a repeater or you can decide to extend the Wi-Fi coverage using your Android device. For those who are not involved in this problem, a WiFi repeater is used to extend the coverage area of the Wi-Fi network in an environment. It works by receiving the existing Wi-Fi signal, amplifying it and then transmitting the enhanced signal.

In this article we will find out how to use an Android device as a WiFi repeater in the first part. In the second part we will see how to improve the Android WiFi signal on your smartphone.

The WiFi repeater function, by default, is not present in Android devices, but some manufacturers have included it in their latest models. Samsung has introduced the WiFi sharing feature with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and is also present in the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Similarly, Huawei’s Honor 6X comes with this feature, called Wi-Fi Bridge.

How to use Android as a WiFi repeater

Now let’s go to the point. How to turn your Android smartphone as a WiFi repeater? Well, there are two fantastic apps to do this. Let’s see them in detail.


This is the first method to use Android as a WiFi repeater.

Step 1. Go to the Google Play Store and download the NetShare-no-root-tethering app.

Step 2. When the app opens, the Share Internet Connection tab will appear. Click on the button to activate it. This basically repeats the Wi-Fi signal you are connected to.


Step 3. Note that you can not change the name or password. The name of the new Wi-Fi network transmitted by the phone will be the Network Name displayed in the app. The Wi-Fi key will be that of the network password.

Step 4. After entering your password, try connecting to the Wi-Fi network. This will not happen because you still need to enter the proxy settings.

Step 5. If you use the Wi-Fi repeater on a Windows PC, you will need to change the proxy settings. Go to Control Panel> Network and Internet. Go to Internet Options and then to Connections. Click on the LAN Settings option below.

Step 6. In the Address box, enter and enter 8282 in the Port box.

Step 7. Save the settings and verify the connection. Now you will have access to the Wi-Fi network broadcast from your Android phone.

It should be noted that this application allows a limited session of 10 minutes for free. To use the full version, you will need to purchase the app.

If you do not want the additional features of this app, there is another one in the Play Store as Net Share. This also turns your Android phone into a Wi-Fi repeater. Let’s see how Net Share works.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The IP addresses and port numbers mentioned for both apps work on all Windows PCs.


Step 1. Download the Net Share app.

Step 2. Once the app is open, touch the Start Sharing button at the bottom.

Step 3. Connect the device using the SSID and password mentioned in the app.

Step 4. In the case of a Windows PC, you will need to go to Control Panel> Network and Internet. Go to Internet Options and then to Connections. Click on the LAN Settings option below.

Step 5. Change the address to and enter 44355 in the Port box.

How to improve the Wifi signal on Android

  • Tap “Wi-Fi frequency band“.
  • Now select only 5 GHz.

Now, the device will use the 5GHz frequency band whenever possible and maximize the wireless signal strength.
