Using YouTube Kids without the internet requires the device owner (in this case, the parents) to be a YouTube Premium subscriber. Therefore, the first step is to subscribe to YouTube’s paid service – with ads and exclusive content – and watch offline videos on your phone or tablet. If you are already a subscriber, just manage your settings.

Whether on the iPhone or iPad (iOS) or Android, the steps are quite similar.

First of all, sign in to YouTube Kids in order to save videos offline.

  1. Search the video you want to download to view without internet;
  2. Tap the three-point menu and select “save offline”;
  3. If you want to stop this process, touch “Stop saving video”.

You need to repeat the process for each video you want to save on your phone.

Saved videos are available for up to 48 hours and the amount will depend on the storage space of the device you are using. It may be necessary to delete old videos to include new ones in the intervale of a weekend, for example.

Some Important Details on Saving Videos on YouTube Kids

By default, videos can only be saved via Wi-Fi connections. To save videos with your mobile network (the cellular data network) you need some adjustments.

  1. Touch the lock icon at the bottom of the app;
  2. Read and enter the numbers that appear or enter your password;
  3. Touch “Settings” and then “Offline”;
  4. On the “Save only over Wi-Fi” radio button, select “Off”.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to save videos using data from your phone, but this will consume your package a lot. So just do this if you do not run out of resources.

If you are going to download videos using data plan, be aware that you can also set the standard quality of the video. High quality content can consume more data and take time to appear offline, as well as take up more space on the phone.

  1. Touch the lock icon at the bottom of the app;
  2. Read and enter the numbers that appear or enter your password;
  3. Touch “Settings” and then “Offline”;
  4. Touch “Video Quality” and choose the default quality you prefer.
