How to Stop Automatic Opening of Websites in Google Chrome Android

For a few days now, your Android smartphone/tablet suddenly opens Web pages without you doing anything, so now you are looking for a solution. We at Teknologya have created a tutorial in which we explain how to solve the problem of sites that open by themselves on Android.

Sites that open by themselves on Android: how to solve

Check the installed applications

Very often the unintentional opening of websites is caused by a particular app installed on your Android device. So, the advice we give you is to check the list of apps on the device with the aim of searching for any suspicious apps.

Generally, the opening of Internet pages, advertising pop-ups and other similar things happens because a freemium application (free app containing additional paid features) or free to play games with in-app purchases has been installed.

In any case, to check all the applications installed on your Android terminal and eventually uninstall them, all you need to do is access the Settings by clicking on the gear on the home screen, in the drawer or by pulling down the notifications curtain and locate the Applications menu. After that, scroll down the list and look for any suspicious app. Once found, click on and first click on Uninstall and then OK to confirm.

Scan for viruses

If you are still asking yourself the question how to solve the problem of sites that open by themselves on Android, then we strongly suggest you to carry out a virus/malware scan using a specific app. For more information, take a look at the guide listed below.

Check the activation of the pop-up blocker in the browser

Another equally effective solution to block sites that open automatically on Android is to enable the blocking of pop-ups within the used navigation app.

If you use Google Chrome, you can activate the block by following the steps below:

  • Start the browser on your Android device, press the 3 dots at the top right and choose Settings from the menu that appears.
  • In the next step, press on Site Settings in the Advanced section and choose Pop-ups and redirects.
  • Complete the operation by setting the switch next to Pop-up and redirects to ON.

In addition to this, we suggest checking the possible Exceptions section which always appears on the same screen. If there are suspicious websites, then click on the portal URL, choose Pop-ups and redirects and check the Block option.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, you will need to follow the steps listed below:

  • Open the browser on your Android smartphone or tablet and type in the address bar at the top about: config.
  • After pressing Enter, you will be presented with the advanced Firefox configuration page.
  • In the next step, type dom.disable_open_during_load inside the Search field at the top right and then tap on Set to activate the pop-up blocker (the entry false instead of true will appear).

Check the DNS

An additional solution to try to solve the problem of sites that open by themselves on Android is to check if a DNS server has been set. To verify this, open the Settings as shown in the previous lines and access the menu dedicated to the Connections.

After that, plug in Wi-Fi and then select the wireless network your device is connected to. Once this is done, locate the Advanced option and then make sure that the DHCP entry is set in IP Settings. If not, select it.

Alternatively, if you have entered a static IP address, check the DNS 1 and DNS 2 fields and see if there are any DNS servers of the chosen service (eg Google, OpenDNS or CloudFlare ). For more information, refer to the guides below.

Obviously, repeat this control with all the Wi-Fi networks you use to surf the Internet.
