As much as Netflix exhibits subtitled attractions, the style of caption is not always what pleases you the most. Sometimes the font size is too small or in some cases, it confuses with the background color, which impairs readability. But cool, it’s easy to increase the font size of the caption, change the style of the lyrics, set the colors and shading and even leave the caption transparent on the screen you use.
How to change the font and color of subtitles on Netflix
To access the settings, simply drag the mouse to the upper right corner – where your profile is – and click on your account. In the My Profile section, just go to the Subtitles Display menu and you’re done: you can already customize the subtitles of Netflix, which will have different style on all compatible devices after making this adjustment.
How to adjust the appearance of subtitles on Apple TV:
- From the Home screen, select Settings;
- Select General;
- Select Accessibility;
- Enable Closed Captions + SDH;
- Select Style and choose your preferred appearance option for the caption and/or hidden caption.

- Use the slider to enable the Closed Captions + SDH;
- From this screen, you can customize the appearance of closed captions and captions in Style.
To adjust the appearance of subtitles on other devices:
- Access your account on the Web version at Netflix.com;
- Select the profile in which you want to change the appearance of the captions;
- Go to Netflix.com/SubtitlePreferences;
- Configure the subtitle appearance and select Save;
- Open the Netflix app on your device and enjoy a new look.
What can you adjust in Netflix subtitles?
In Source, you can change the appearance of the letter, through the series of preloaded fonts that Netflix offers. Beside this menu, there is the colored square in which it is possible to change the color of the letter. If you want to make it transparent, click the Semitransparent option.
You can also change the style of other aspects of the legend. In Shadow, you can set the degree to which the shadow will stay in the letter. This option is handy if you do not like the way the shadow appears behind the caption – and you can still change the color!
To increase or decrease the caption, just go to the Text size option. Just below, you can set a Background or Window to add a block of color behind the caption, so it will be visible in any type of movie. Both can be less opaque by the Semi-transparent option already mentioned.
To reset all settings, click Reset as default.
