How to enable developer options on Android

When you want to update your Android phone or tablet with the use of a computer or when you want to receive root permissions on your Android device, you must always enable USB debugging to connect and communicate with your Android device.

This mode is useful for connectivity, but also helps send commands to your Android phone or tablet via Odin or other tools. By default, USB debugging mode is disabled to prevent inadvertent changes to the device.

You need to manually activate developer options on Android. For different Android versions, there are different configurations to enable USB debugging mode or developer options on your Android phone.

The Developer Options Menu is something you need for Android developers, hackers or geeks, as a means of quickly accessing and controlling your devices from your computer.

How to enable developer options on Android

Even if you’re an average user and want to upgrade your device with a custom ROM on your Android phone or tablet, you need to enable USB debugging on your Android device.

You will not be able to enable USB debugging mode unless you enable the developer options menu on your device first.

Most of the useful features found in the developer options:

  • Enable USB debugging.
  • Send quick bug reports to the device.
  • Show CPU usage on the screen.
  • View debugging information on the screen such as layout limits and other information.
  • Many other options to simulate apps or enable debugging options.

The Developer Options menu has always been visible by default in all previous versions of Android, but from Android version 4.2 and above, they have been hidden.

Enable the Developer Options Menu from Android Android 2.0 to Android 4.1.x

Go to Settings »Developer Options or Settings» Applications »Development.

Enable Options for Android 4.2 developers and above

  • Go to settings.
  • Scroll down and touch Info on your phone.
  • Scroll down and find the Number Build field.
  • To enable developer options, tap the Build number seven times option. After touching a few times and you will see a countdown like “You are 3 clicks from becoming a developer”.
  • When you have finished pressing built number 7 times, you will see the message “Now you are a developer!”.

That’s all we’ve just finished talking about how to enable developer options on an Android phone!
