Do you want to read an ePub in ePub format on your computer but you don’t know how to do it? In this guide I’ll explain how to do it.
To view e-books on your PC you need to install an ebook reader. There are several to choose from, including Caliber. It is an open source and free software. It allows you to read ebooks in PDF, ePub and Kindle format.
How to add an ebook to the library
- To read an ebook with Caliber, you must first add it to the library.
- Click on the Add Books button at the top left.
- Select the ebook file on your PC.
- Then click on Open at the bottom right.
Note: You can add ebook files in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Html, Lit and Txt formats to the Caliber library.
After a few seconds the e-book is added to Caliber.
You have added an ebook to the library.
The title of the ebook is displayed in the list of books in the Caliber library.
Now you can open it and read it.
How to open an ePub file
- Go to the list of books in the Caliber library.
- Then click on the title of the ebook you want to read.
- A new window opens with the ebook viewer.
- Now you can finally read the electronic book on your PC screen.
- Now you know how Caliber works.
In the next paragraph I will explain how to install it for free on your PC.
How to install Caliber
Go to the official Caliber website at calibre-ebook.com and click on the Download button.
It is located at the top right.
Select the operating system of your PC (Windows, MacOS, Linux).
Note: There is also the possibility of installing Caliber in a portable version on a pen drive. In this tutorial I chose the Windows version.
On the next screen click on Download Caliber.
How long does the Caliber download take? The Caliber installation file weighs about 59 MB, with an ADSL connection the download takes a few seconds.
At the end of the download go to the download folder of your browser and click on the installation file.
At the first screen you accept the terms of use of the program and click on the Install button.
Installation takes a few minutes.
At the end of the setup click on Finish.
At the first run of the program you must complete the Caliber configuration.
Choose the language of the interface you prefer.
Note: If you want you can also change the default folder to use as a library. It is the directory where to upload the ebook files.
Then click on the Next button to continue.
Now indicate the type of device you are using.
If your device is not listed, select Generic.
Then click on Next at the bottom right.
Now click on the Finish button to start the program.
You have installed Caliber on your PC.
Installation is over. The first screen of Caliber opens automatically.
Now you can start adding and reading your ebooks.
To write this guide I used a PC with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system and Google Chrome browser. The instructions are similar even if you use another browser (Mozilla Firefox, Edge or Safari).
