The Shortcuts app, available in apps.apple.com, lets you create one-touch automatic tasks (scripts). This way, you can have it display a QR code that contains the password for your Wi-Fi network.

See how:

  1. Download and install the Shortcuts app for your iPhone or iPad;
  2. Open the app and under “My Shortcuts” (“Library” on iOS 12) click “+” (iPhone) or “Create Shortcut” (iPad);
  3. Tap “Settings (the three dots or the two keys, depending on the iOS version);
  4. Give the shortcut a name, such as “Share Wi-Fi Password”, change the icon as desired and tap “OK”;
  5. Add the “Get Network Details” widget (enter the name in the search tool), set the network as “Wi-Fi” under “Get”, select “Network Name”;
  6. Add the “Text” widget and enter the password for the Wi-Fi network you want to share;
  7. Add the “Text” widget and enter the string “WIFI: T: WPA; S: <Wi-Fi network name>; P: <Wi-Fi network password> ;;” (without quotation marks and with the two dot- ), where “T” is the network type (WPA or WEP), “S” is the network name and “P” is the network password;
  8. Select the “Wi-Fi network name” section in the string by the “Network Details” variable;
  9. Select the “Wi-Fi network password” in the string by the “Text” variable;
  10. Now create the string in the second Text widget;
  11. This will allow the QR code to automatically get the network name and password from the other widgets you have already included;
  12. Add the “Generate QR Code” widget and choose a level of error correction (Minimal, Medium, Quartile or Maximum) for damaged codes;
  13. Add the “Quick View” widget to display a preview of the QR code;
  14. Tap the “Run” button at the top to rotate the shortcut.

When you run the shortcut, it will display the QR code that your friend will need to scan to connect to your Wi-Fi network without ever finding your password.
