What is Incognito browsing: when and how to use it

You want to surf the Internet without leaving any trace from your computer or smartphone but do not know which procedure to follow? In the next lines we will explain in detail how to use incognito browsing on the main browsers available on the square.

Google Chrome

Starting from the popular Internet browser developed by the Mountain View giant, it is possible to activate incognito browsing in a very simple way. From Windows PC and Mac, simply open Chrome, press on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and press on the item New incognito window. Alternatively, you can use the key combination Ctrl + Shift + N on Windows or Cmd + Shift + N on macOS.

Please note that by default, incognito browsing disables all installed extensions. If you want to activate one in particular, just click on the 3 dots located at the top right, choose More tools and press on Extensions. From the window that appears, click on the button Details of the extension you wish to activate and turn ON the switch next to the word Allow incognito mode.

From smartphones and tablets, however, just open the Google Chrome app, press the 3 dots on the top right and choose New Incognito tab from the menu that appears.

Mozilla Firefox

If you use the well-known Internet browsing program offered by Mozilla, in this case you can exploit the incognito browsing in a very simple way. From Windows PC and Mac, click on the 3 dashes at the top right and choose New anonymous window from the menu that appears. Alternatively, you can use the key combination Ctrl + Shift + P on Windows or Cmd + Shift + P on macOS.

If you usually use Firefox on smartphones and tablets (both Android and iOS), then simply press the 3 dots at the top right and choose New Private Browsing, if you own a device with Google’s mobile operating system. If you have an iDevice, instead, just press on the purple mask placed at the top left.

Safari

As you all surely know, Apple pre-installs the Safari browser on its iOS and Mac devices. Just like other competitors, it also provides an incognito browsing feature.

On Mac, you need to open Safari, press the File menu at the top and choose New Private Window from the menu that appears. Alternatively, just press the Shift + Cmd + N key combination. On iPhone and iPad, however, start the Apple browser, press on the two blue squares placed at the top right and press on the item Private.

Microsoft Edge

If you own a PC with Windows 10 on board and use the new Microsoft browser, then you can enable incognito browsing in a very simple way. You need to open Microsoft Edge, click on the 3 dots in the upper right and choose New InPrivate window.

On Android and iOS devices, however, you can access the same option (called New InPrivate tab ) by pressing the 3 dots located at the bottom right of Android and top right on iOS.

Opera

In case you were a user of the Opera browser, you can surf in complete anonymity from Windows PC and Mac (and Linux) in a very simple way. Just open the program, click on the Opera logo on the top left and choose New Private Browsing from the menu that appears. Alternatively, use the Ctrl + Shift + N key combination on Windows or Cmd + Shift + N on macOS.

If you use the Opera or Opera Mini browser on smartphones/tablets Android and iPhone, you can surf the Internet incognito by pressing the square containing the number 1 at the bottom, pressing the Private item located at the top right and then the + button at the bottom.

On the iPad, however, press on the browser logo located at the top right and choose New Private Tab from the menu that appears. Unfortunately, if you use Opera Touch on your iPhone or Android device you will not be able to surf in anonymity.
